Question about the 1971 johnson 50hp short shaft

Hello gang, A friend was recently gifted an old runabout with this motor on it. However, it needs a new bottom end. The engine runs fine. So we need to find a parts donor motor.

Knowing that they probably made this motor for a few years in a row, do you guys know what years this thing ran for? And I'm assuming that the evinrude was also the same motor. We need to be able to expand our search.

Sorry, ----ONLY a 71 or 72 model shortshaft 50 hp EVINRUDE / JOHNSON will be a direct bolt it on fit.----And short shaft motors are much more rare than longshaft versions.----Your model number is ??------Your location ?

I was a bit surprised to hear that it was a short shaft. I thought those always seemed to be associated with flat bottom craft like dingys and such. The boat is in ontario.

One more question,

My friend has a lead on the bottom end of a similar model. Basically, it's the same motor but it's the non-saltwater model.

Will this matter for parts swapping? What makes something a "saltwater" model?

No difference. ----Perhaps they meant to say it was never used in salt water.

In that Era, the manufacturers did not offer Salt Water models
