Question about the "Fat fifty" search did not help.

Hey I was wondering about the "Fat fifty". I know it was produced 58 and 59 as 50hp and then went to 75hp in the later years.

I am sure this horse has been beat to death, but I could not find any talk about it with search.

Can the 1958/59 "Fat fifty" be made into a 75hp model with just interchanging parts from the later years?

Thanks,
Rick

I don't know the answer to your question, but why bother with this? You can find one of the 75 hp models for a reasonable price just about anywhere. They aren't so popular these days. Why not just buy one of those. You'll end up paying more for the powerhead from one than for the whole outboard.

There is no way to bolt parts onto your existing powerhead to make it a 75 hp, if that's what your question is.

I've have a fat fifty I parted out, and dealt with these some.
I wondered the exact same thing on these...and researched it back then...just looked it up again.

The 50,60, and 65 HP motors are the same bore and stroke. Rating is respecticely at 4000,4500, and 5000 RPMS for the different HP's.

The 75 80, and 85 HP have a larger bore, 3 3/8 vs the others 3".
They have 89.5 CI of displacement vs 70.7 on the others.

I have a old fat fifty I parted out in my barn...never did really sell anything from it....have almost all of it still less the lower unit.

PM me your email address if you want a deal on spare parts for it.
