Ive got a 15 ft boat, but Im having the primary engine rebuilt - 55HP and it wont be ready until the end of the season. I have a 15HP project motor that I could use just to get the boat out on a local lake for swimming etc. Is it legal to use this boat on the lake with a tiller motor?? The boat is setup with a steering wheel and 2 sets of back-to-back seats, but no seats back near the motor.

Thanks.

So its legal to stand while underway or sit on the floor of the boat???

Check your local laws, but I believe you may stand! I have a center console boat and thats the only way I roll!!!

It's totally up to you to find a safe method to operate the motor.

How about a milk crate with a life cushion? Bungee that box to the transom or floor and let her rip! You may feel like an idiot, but I wouldnt give the legality a second thought. Think about a jetski. Those have sick power and all there is to keep you on is the handlebars.
