Hey Folks!

I'm glad I found you. I just got my hands on my first OB and I will probably be asking a bunch of questions. I have already found a ton of good info by searching and reading the FAQ's. I also have a shop manual on order.

The warning buzzer does not seem to work. I just replaced the control cables and noticed that the buzzer had a tan and purple wire connected. There is also a black wire (I assume ground), but it is screwed into the control housing with no other wire connected. Is the control housing a good ground?

There is also a momentary push button switch on the side of the control that has the wires cut and removed. What is this for?

The engine is a 1988 90 VRO (J90TLCCA).

Thanks for the help!

-John

Re: Question about warning buzzer

hello
most likly the horn is bad, the 3 wire horns had a self test fuction. yes the control box housing is a ground. if the black ground lead from the main harness is still attached to the box as well. the "momentary" switch is most likly the emergency stop switch. a lot of them got cut out of the circuit rather than properly trouble shot or replaced. but the failure rate on the self testing horn was rather high. make sure you have 12v, key on engine off, on the purple wire to the black ground wire. if you do touch a jumper lead fron ground to tan. horn should sound. if it does not either you dont have 12v or the horn is bad. most likly a bad horn.
