Re: Question about water output

Unplug the hose from the telltale and see how it pumps. Could be the smaller hole in the telltale is plugged up a little.

Re: Question about water output

Weed whip line works great for poking and prodding in the tell tale.

Re: Question about water output

Check your t-stats,especially if you use the engine in saltwater, they do like to build up salt. Do you have a water pressure guage? What is the pressure. Are you running on a hose or in the water? Makes a difference.
A lot of the time the pee hole just spits and sputters until the stats open up.
Did you check water flow on the hose for the poppet valve?
Are you sure you got the impeller installed properly?
As you can see. Lot of possibilities here.

Installed new t-stats.No saltwater. No pressure gauge.Guess I should get one.Ran boat on hose and in water no difference still just spits.Impeller is installed correctly.Did not check water output at poppet valve.By the way what is the purpose of poppet valve?

Re: Question about water output

Does the engine overheat at idle?
Is there plenty of water coming out thru the prop and around the anode just above the cavitation plate?
What happens when you raise the RPM up to say 1500 to 2000 rpm.
Might follow that hose coming out of the tell tale to the T. Then remove the hoses and make sure the tee is clear.
Did it use to have a strong stream at idle, or has it always been week?

Yes plenty of water coming out of prop. The stream use to be solid at all times idle or full throttle.

Re: Question about water output

On my '93 135V6, only water that has passed thru the thermostats in the head, goes out the telltale. Other water goes out the exhaust, bypassing the thermostats. This has the effect of almost no telltale flow at idle or when the motor is cold. In addition if you put a pressure gauge on the telltake hose, you will see the pressure go from zero to a few pounds, and then back to zero every few seconds.

There is a water hose from the poppit at the base of the powerhead, to the upper part of the powerhead. This is where the water pressure may be monitored, since it is constantly pressurized.

When you run that motor on a hose, you will see much water out the prop, and a bit out of the grating above the prop, and almost none out the telltale. I need to use full water pressure on the flusher to keep up with the volume of water discharged.
