Last week I took my thermastat out of the engine. It is a 1987 dt-65hp suzuki two stroke. I noticed that there was quite a buildup of scale (lime) in the passages. Does anyone have any remedies to fix this without having to take the backplate off . My peehole usually is pretty strong but sometimes will become clogged and I will have to take a piece of wire or the air pump to dislodge the passage. The bolts on my engine plate have never been removed and I was hoping that someone may know of a way to chemically treat this issue to disolve the scale.. I think I already know what I will have to do but am keeping my fingers crossed. :p Thanks

Re: question about water passages

There's an acidic chemical product called "Saltaway" that you can circulate through your motor to remove deposits. You might want to check their web site for more details...it's gotta be better than trying to remove all those frozen head and exhaust cover bolts. Good Luck!

That has got to hurt. Sorry, couldn't resist.
How about CLR. Force some back through the "you know" and let it sit overnight. Stuff works great on calcium and lime.

Re: question about water passages

Regular household vinegar should help clear lime scale. Much cheaper than CLR as well, and it should be safer to use in the motor as well.

TimBobCom- Now that just might work. If I plug all outlets and take the thermostat out , I can pour the vinegar in and let it soak for a day or two.Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks
