I've got a bass america, has a 50 hp johnson which is mounted as low as it will go, it porpoises with trim all the way down, with 2 people including driver and no gear in the boat. my last option is to raise the motor some to see if it fixes it, was wondering the best method for raising motor in garage, don't want to damage the motor anyway in the process thats why im asking

Park motor end of trailer under tree limb and get a ratcheting strap. Throw strap over tree limb and crank ratchet tight. Loosen bolts(remove one on each side and ratchet engine to height desired, reinstall bolts with some silicon to seal.

Re: Question - Best way to raise motor

not to be a thread stealer but i have a boat rated for a 90 hp and i have an 85 hp but think its to low it wont idle right and stalls a lot i have rebuilt the fuel pump and carbs compression is 130 on all four cyl and trim out helps but then it bobs the boat front up and down i think its too much backpressure due to boat sinking to low thought raising motor would relief some backpressure what do yall think

OK, if you have a boat on a trailer:
1. Park on a level, paved surface
2. Block car wheels so it can't move
3. Motor vertical
4. Place wood blocks under skeg until only small space
5. Remove upper engine to transom bolts
6. Raise tongue jack on trailer until slight load on skeg blocking
7. Loosen, but DO NOT REMOVE lower engine mounting bolts in slotted part of motor bracket
8. Continue extending tongue jack until hole you want lines up with bolt hole
9. Replace upper bolts
10. Tighten all bolts
11. Retract tongue jack
DONE

This takes longer to describe than do. I did two 175's by myself several years ago in under 20 minutes. The key is having boat on a trailer. I've been using this method for over 30 years w/o incident. Boat wants to run with AV plate just uncovered (dry). Continue raising until right or excess cavitation in tight turns. Don't use sealant for holes until you get the height right.

mike1245 hijacking is extremely rude, and a good way to get ignored. START your OWN thread. you have more problems that engine height.
