i rebuilt the the carb a around the high speed jet is driping gas very very slowit takes about a day or two to see it and i had in a barrel running and i see a little green oil running down the lower leg of the motor the part that is in the water but all and all it ran rel good but the gas leak and the oil run worries me on my 1960 johnson 40

That has packing around the jet. You might stop the leak by tightening up the retainer around it. Failing that, add a couple of packing washers.

i put 4 packings in the bottom high speed and two a washer 2 packing then another washer in the low speed so u say tighen it and could the oil on the lower unit could be from the exaust in a barrel un burnt fuel

Pinto, you could possible have the wrong type of o rings, or they can be bad. make sure that they are a little stiff, but not dry rotted. Also make sure the cover is tight. Any miniscule leak in an oring will leak fuel. For the oil, it may be dripping from the caarbs and down through the drain in the cowling. Where exactly is it coming from?

Also, you may not have the right number of packings. Ask a local Marina or check and see what the book says.
