Okay I recently was servicing the lower end of my 1978 merc 9.8 110 and I had quite a time trying to get the lower end back together, would not line up ,gear positions backwards ,blah, blah , so anyways I got all that figured out and got it all assembled everything looks okay until I noticed that when in fwd gear I spin the prop manually and it makes an audible clicking sound every half to full turn or so . Now this is somthing that I didnt notice before nor did I check for the sound because I just picked up this o/b . So now I am a little concerned about the sound. It does not feel or sound as if anything is grinding or draging its just a clicking sound could you all tell me if this normal or its a problem that has to be corrected before i take it out on the water any info is much appreciated thanks.

Hmmm...you mean when you put it in one gear, and spin it the opposite way? thats normal. as long as it goes into gear(will only turn one way, then shift it and it'll only turn the other way....and you get NO CLICKING in neutral it's ok. And always throw that shifter QUICKLY into gear, not slowly.
