Question For Anyone Whos Worked In A Jail.

Yesterday I drove past our county building that houses our courts and offices and also the jail. Well theres a bunch of people standing out side and then I noticed that there were firetrucks and squads there also. Well since they had to evact the building because of a fire my Question is. <br /><br />Where do the Inmates go? <br /><br />Do they just put out the fire and worry about the inmates later?

Nope. They usuallt take them to an outside recreation yard. If one doesn't exist then they would line then up, possibly handcuufed and shackled, along a road or sidewalk with jailers or deputies to watch over them.

I had an uncle who worked in a state penetentiary (making license plates!)

Our jail they stay in until the risk is too high, example a fire on the third floor, we are on the first. OR until enough deputies and extra security can be called in to take charge if needed. They are taken to the outside rec pen if possible. If not they are cuffed and the high risk inmates locked in patrol cars the rest sit on the curb or sidewalk at a safe distance. Depending on the size of fire. <br /><br />If all options are gone and the fire or emergency is too big or too close to the cells. Then the doors are open and they are on an honor system to stay around. We can round them up easier than we can justify their deaths. <br />But then we only hold low risk inmates mostly. Most are short timers and would not run if they were paid. <br /><br />All other emergencies have policy covering like tornados.
