I hit a stump tonight with my 98 glastron se 195 volvo 4.3 i/o. prop was barely scratched no chips or cracks but now my steering is very notchy, noisy and just does not seem fluid or consistent. The p/s pump is making a squealing noise like it were low on fluid and the belt shortly after seem to be very hot and smell like it was burning.

Isit low on power steering fluid. Sounds like it's time to replace the belt.

Bent ram, fluid isn't flowing correctly, pump is having a hernia trying to cope.

im thinkin the same as dunaruna, if the boat jolted bad then its safe to say that something gave out or bent. is as with any hydraulic system, put a severe load on it and its goin to get hot and make a bad noise, and over heat the belt from working so hard. oh, don posted on your other thread.
