Re: Question for Mods
Hi, Rick.

Our intent in creating the FAQ section was to have carefully researched, written and edited articles rather than suggestions and advice.

We mistakenly opened it when it first appeared and got a lot of good advice and suggestions that weren't complete answers, or were subject to disagreement in opinions.

This is the procedure we settled on:

A contributor writes a comprehensive article answering any version of a FAQ as far as it can go without getting into particular makes and models. Then (s)he posts it in the appropriate forum asking for suggestions, comments and additions from other contributors.

The original author edits and revises to fit input from fellow members.

When (s)he feels it is ready to be permanently in the FAQ section, (s)he advises the Moderators, who will transfer it to FAQ under the original author's name.

This is not an easy project to do, and accepting suggestions from others is not easy on one's ego, but that is the way good technical writing is done. Good technical writing is what we envision for the section.

I agree that "Outboard wont start" could go a lot further, but differences in carburetion systems, numbers of carbs, ignition systems and so forth for different models and different makes would turn it into a book. By using the article as it is a member can zero in close enough to ask clear and concise questions about his/her particular make and model on the appropriate forum and get better advice quicker than posting "My outboard wont start. Whats wrong?"

Thanks for your interest. We would be very glad to help with details of any solution to a frequently asked question you or any other member would like to post.

We do need to replace the "prop" postings with a more detailed and comprehensive article that would probably include the excellent advice that is already there. Any volunteers?
