John,
I put the Smart Tabs on my Carolina skiff on my last trip to Florida, and they made all the difference in the world. Thanks a million. I only took a couple of quick trips, and I now need to put the zincs on them. Do the zincs need to be any recommended size, and does it matter much where they are actually situated on the tabs? Thanks in advance.

Fishndvm;

Glad you are happy. The instructions picture the zincs installed next to the trimplate bracket on the plate. There are two common sizes for plates 1 7/8" Dai. and 2 1/2" diam. If you are using the ST1290 plates use the 2 1/2". If you do not leave the boat in the water then you can split then using one half on each plate. Mount them to the top in this case so you can keep an eye on the condition.

Re: Question for Nautijohn

Thanks John. You recommended the ST980-30's (9"X8") after a coversation that we had a while back. The boat is out of the water between trips. If you think 21/2" is good, I'll go with them. Thanks again.

Ernie

You can use either the 1 7/8" or the 2 1/2" on the ST980 Plates.

What is the minimum salt water use for adding the zincs? I typically use my boat, in seawater, a couple of times a year.

Re: Question for Nautijohn

Boomyal;

It is a function of time in the water. If you are in for the day and then out (and wash it off) then you can most likely do without the zincs. However, I have seen fresh water that is also very conductive (rare but it does happen) and the issue again is how long is it in the water. Typicaly if it is in and out on to a trailer, you can do without them.

If is were my boat, I would put some on just for the insurance value.

Re: Question for Nautijohn

John,
Forgive me for the silly question perhaps, but I'm still new at this. I found 1 7/8 round zincs that are biconvex. They look like flying saucers. These would obviously not lie flat on the tabs. Does this matter? I also found some rectangular ones that would lie flat. And do they work the way they're supposed to mounted to either surface? Sorry to be a pain. I just want to get it right. Thanks.
