thanks for your help

the problem is the same at all throttle positions - it runs, there's just very little power and very sluggish acceleration. The entire engine looks really clean like it may have been rebuilt not too long ago. It starts first pull - it just won't open up. Could this be plug wires or coil?

original post:
anybody know why my motor wont run unless the choke is pulled? the motor runs kinda rough unless I hold the choke plate steady and in the closed position, even after the motor is plenty warm. I mixed a new batch of fuel with 50:1 ratio. The motor will run but wont produce enough power to plane my 10' inflatable with fiberglass hull. Any help would be most appreciated.

your reply:
I would guess that you have a clogged carb. The idle passges are probably gummed up which only deliver enough fuel to run when the air is restricted.

Get a squirt bottle of fuel and shoot some into the carb throat when at idle and with the chke open and see if she picks up. If thats the case you have a fuel starvation problem. My bet would be a gummed up carb, but don't overlook the fuel supply either, tank connection and pump..
