Question for the experts Oil seals

Hello my friends
My question is i would like to replace the oil seals in a 1976 4 hp outboard.
I have the seals out prop seal and the seal under the water pump is out
do i need to lube them with some thing before sticking new ones in thanks

Hi
You can rub some gear oil around the lips, makes it not as wearing on the seals as you reinstall the shafts

Coat the outsides with Permatex-#3 and apply marine grease on the seal area.
