I have an 1992 Nissan 30hp motor. I know the guy I got it from said he paid more to get the 30hp over the identical looking 25hp back in the day. I was reading the manual and just about all the specs aside from the hp are the same. The props are the same, the rpm ranges...and even the bore stroke...everything. What I want to know is if the rpm range is the same, and props are the same, is the only difference the acceleration of the 30hp to top rpm is faster than the 25? What is the difference? Thanks.

Re: question for the knowledgeable.

The carburetor mounting gasket and on some models, the timing. There was only a $25.00 difference between the two models in the late 80's and early 90's.

Tohatsu Guru, thanks for the response. So what is the performance difference one would see between the 25hp and 30hp?

Re: question for the knowledgeable.

I would say you couldn't tell the difference without a tach and gps.
Probably 1 or 2 mph.Might plane marginally better with a load.

Re: question for the knowledgeable.

What he said....Your talking a 15% hp difference which isn't a lot unless you were at hump point with the 25.
