question for the starmada

I have 18 foot starcraft holiday that currently has a very good condition/running 1997 40 HP Mercury. It currently screams across the lake at 25 MPH top speed, which honestly is ok with me. BUT I would like a little more. I have an opportunity to get a 2003 50 HP Honda 4 stroke. I personally love the idea of 4 stroke. My question is how much more top end speed do you think I would get out of the extra 10 HP? My goal is to run at 30 MPH at about 90 % when steaming. Should I hold off and wait till I find a 75 HP or even a 90 HP.

In my opinion - Get a motor that's at least 75% of the max HP rating. The 16' tinny in my sig gets just under 32 MPH with a 50. You won't do that with 2 more feet of added weight and it might pick up a smidge of speed. Another concern is beating the motor to death running at WOT or close to it while sucking the fuel tank dry.

EDIT - Would you like this moved to the Starcraft forum? The question really is generic in nature.

You can probably expect about 30 mph at WOT, I have a 17.5' Tracker with a 50 4 stroke and I get 33 mph (gps) at WOT with just me and my fishing gear on a calm day.

You will love that 4 stroke though, smooth quiet power without 2 stroke smoke.

Thanks Jigngrub. Did you notice a big difference in Fuel consumption from 2 stroke to 4 stroke? I have always wanted the 4 stroke Honda. My priorities in order are reliability, reliability , reliability. With over all satisfactory cruising speed and fuel consumption thrown in there.
