To begin, the powerhead mentioned below in all aspects is identical from 1988 to at least 1991.

I recently sold a rebuilt 1991 200hp looper powerhead to a friend that lives a few blocks from me. His engine is 1989 200hp looper and he is in the process of changing the powerheads over at this time.

He phoned me and stated that his engine does not have the same type thermostat covers, and that his thermostat covers do not have any fittings at all where water hoses would be connected.

In all the engines of this class that I have worked on in the past (V6 Loopers), the port thermostat cover had one hose fitting and the starboard thermostat cover had two hose fittings.

This morning I checked my books, going from 1988 to 1992 to eliminate leaning on memory and I found that indeed all of the thermostats incorporated the hose fittings on both thermostat covers, and all had the well known Water Control Valve Assy. My friend says that his engine does not have this Water Control Valve Assy.

The control valve I speak of is behind and operated by the vertical throttle arm that operates the timer base etc.

I know that a different type water control assembly was used later on at the top portion of the exhaust baffle area somewhere, but my friend says that this newer control does not exist on his engine either.

I may be missing something as I did retire in 1991 and of course had no access to service bulletins since. Does a conversion setup of some kind exist whereas the Water Control Valve and its related hoses are eliminated?
