I am currently working on wiring my Mercruiser 470, engine S/N 6364018. The engine has the Voltage Regulator removed, with an alternator in its place. Now, I am looking at the Electrical System 3F-19 page in the Mercruiser Manual. There are a couple of questions that I have regarding the purpose of the wiring.
1) What is the specifications/requirements for the purple resistance wire between the ignition coil and choke?
2) Purple 5 is in parallel with the purple resistance wire. What I read is that this wire is fed from the purple resistance wire (which is energized by pur-yellow), and basically supplies to forward gauges (3F-67) for use with gauge signals. Does Purple 5 specifically need to be connected at the choke instead of at the ignition coil? Please provide details as to why one vs. the other.
3) The choke has a ground. Is being connected to the engine good enough?
4) Is the difference between the battery meter and the ammeter circuit basically gauge monitoring? Is this outside of engine performance and mostly electrical loading/discharge? What's the purpose if I am using an alternator?
