It is taking several times for starter motor to engage. When cold once you turn it over it will catch for a second then make a weeeeeeeeeeee sound. After a 4 or 5 tries it will engage fully then start right up. When warm it will do it on the first try then start right up. Anything I can do to fix this problem myself? Thanks

You can try lubricating the starter shaft that the little gear slides up and down on.

Put one drop of light machine oil on your finger, then rub finger on starter shaft.

Or give it a tiny spritz of WD-40.
