Guys,

I am looking at a boat from a friend that I know well, a very good person. It is a Ranger boat. It has a Fitch engine. The boat is a 1999, and the motor is a 200hp ficht. I have done searches on the 1999 ficht and seen the problems that were assosiated with the motor. All of the pictures that I see are a white motor not a blue motor. He says the motor has a bit less than 100 hours on it. Can you tell what year this motor is by the look of it?

Thanks.

Once I get more info I will place it on here.

The year looks right I wouldn't buy it that motor its more problems then its worth. If it was 2002 and up I would be all over it. If it was from the better years it would say BRP on it.

If the motor has been run regularly since new it might be fine - if the motor has been updated with the fixes.

Re: question on ficht

didn't the problems that affected the ficht mainly happen with the lower horsepower units? He told me yesterday that it still has the original sparkplugs in it. He has gone to change them many times, but he says they are clean. Now, did the fixes from evinrude fix the problem, or what there still potential for more problems.

one more thing, is the lowerunit on these bad? I read of faulty lower units.

I believe most of the Ficht problems were mostly with the higher HP models, the V6's not the V4's. I also think the fixes were computer re-programs and updates. I would stay away from it.

Thanks guys,

I will stay away from it. It's a shame the boat is such a beautiful boat, in mint condition, it's a Ranger R93.

But thanks again, and i will start looking elsewhere.

You could show the seller the article and adjust your purchase offer accordingly. There is a decent chance the engine will be fine, there is a 1999 175hp on my lake that performs well.

Re: question on ficht

i have spoken to the seller and told him about the issue with the recall on the motor. He is a friend of mine, and i could tell that he was upset with the motor. He is contacting Evinrude(OMC) to find out why he was never notified, and see if there is still anything that can be done. I think the boat is in superior shape. And possibly worth what he is asking. I will see what happens. I am looking into a 2005 Triton TR19X and TR20x(bassmaster edition) powered by a 225.

I like the idea of a newer boat. But that boat is in excellent shape
