question on model year

I have a Mariner model 40 ELO serial 6E9-425766
but it does not exacty fit into any of the model#/serial# charts that I found at http://www.marinshopen.se/guide/mp/marguide.htm
That serial number seems to fit in the chart for a model-40C EL 1986 but the plate says it is a model 40 ELO and this serial number does not seem to go with that model. Anyone have a idea what year it really is?

I'm gonna say it's a 1986 model based on the process of elimination. It looks like it can't be anything else. Those Mariner numbers are a nightmare...

thanks Rick, that is kind of the conclusion that I also thought. I was hoping someone else might be more familar with the charts and have some insight into how to read them with a little more certianty.
