I just got a Motorguide W55 and I was putting it on the boat and saw on the power cord that you are suppose to disconect it before charging the batteries.

Do I actually have to do that?

If so, what a pain, my battery is below the bow deck so I will have to take that off everytime but I suppose that is better than frying it.

Does anyone know why this is, seems kinda silly to me.

Thanks.

Yes, I have a W45, and confirmed that with MG tech service. Because it is wireless, it is always on. If you have an off switch or CB, you can easily do that. I just unplug my W45 before plugging in the AC for charger.

i have a W45 also, i just put a switch in line, as if you let them sit connected, they will kill the battery.

Good enough, I will grab a switch or plug Monday, just seemed a little odd to me.
