I bought a used boat acouple days ago and i have been reading the honda manuals for this motor off the honda website. It appears the motor comes with 2 fuel filters inside the engine crowl. On the fuel filter are water separators as well?? Foudn that interesting.

Question is the boat came with a separate recor fuel/water filter outside the motor. Is this necessary? or just overkill?

Re: Question on my 2003 200hp honda outboard

Engine has a fuel-water separator (aft most clear bowl on side if eng.), Low pressure fuel filter (fwd clear bowl), and high pressure fuel filter (not easily visible or accessible) on the back of the engine beside the vapor separator Assy. With today's fuel-water problems a separate larger filter is definitely necessary. That small engine mounted separator won't hold much by itself .
