Mercury has 2 40 hp's in their 2001 Line up, both a 2 cylinder and a 3 cylinder. Does anyone know the reason for this? Are they going to phase one out?

Looking for input from our resident Merc experts like CORM, ODDD1 and others...
Thanks..

Nav go with the 3 cyl.... a much nicer running engine large bore twins always have a choppy idle..rather irritating on a aluminum boat

Thanks ODDD1, Thats kind of the way I was leaning anyways...An since Its going on a
16ft aluminum crestliner, you make a good point about vibration.

Re: Question on new Merc 40's

Hi, NAV. I agree with ODDD1. Johnson did the same thing with their 25/30. The 3s are loop charged, the twins cross charged. The 3s are smoother, more fuel efficient, cleaner and only a little heavier. If the same comparisons fit the Merc it's a no-brainer.

Good luck.
JB
