Question on rebuilding my lower unit. 61 10hp Evinrude

I removed the guts from the lower unit and as everything fell out I lost track of which side the shift rod goes. Or does it matter? In otherwords does the shift lever that goes down to the clutch dog retainer go on a certain side. Thanks for your help as I am putting it back together very soon. Thanks, Mettyfish

You are kind of asking us to do brain surgery over the phone in the dark without any idea of what motor it is.

metty...look at the lower unit diagram at marineengine.com...I think that'll answer your question
