I have a 1975 6hp sea king that i finely got running. I stuck it in a barrel of water and started it up, my question is where do i look to see if water pump is working?? On the back side of motor i have 2 holes where exhuast comes out and thats it. I don't know much about these engines so can someone tell me where to look to see water coming out so i know its working

That's where. There should be a healthy warm spray.

Well all i have is exhaust coming out. Is the water suppose to be pouring out of it or just a spray?? Is it noticable? And if i don't have water then that means my impeller is shot? And do i have to take complete lower unit apart to get to impeller

You basically have to take the lower unit off. The water pump is sitting right on top. If you get the service manual its very clear where its located.

Okay heres what i got i took lower unit off which wasn't very hard and found the water pump and the impeller looks fine no cracks, no rips looks real good as i look up inside towars engine bottom theres a copper line that the water goes up in and dissapears into engine. Heres the question where does that line run to?? And maybe up inside it may be clogged?

When you put it in the barrel be sure the water is well up the leg as it would be when sitting on the boat in the water.

I mounted the motor to the back of my boat and put it in the water and started it and still no water running out so i contacted FranzMarine and hes gonna send me a complete water pump kit for it and hopefully that should solve all problems. You must not be able to see the problem with a water pump by visual they must just quit working???

If the pump is a 5 or 6-bladed type, the fins should be mostly straight rather than curled. They bend over time, and reduce effectiveness. JHB
