Question on stator/rectifier

I have a 1982 35 hp Evinrude that I put a new stator and rectifier on 6 years ago and parked it in the shop. I'm selling it now and was checking everything out for the buyer. While the motor was running, I tested what was coming to the battery from the stator and it was no different than what the battery had initially. 12.58v. I tested the three wires from the rectifier and they were open one way and closed the other. I also did an ohm test on the 3 wires from the stator with black to ground, red to the wires one at a time(while they were all disconnected) and there was no continuity. I have great spark to the plugs also.

I guess my question is, does the stator only put a charge towards the battery when needed, or what problem might I have here?

Re: Question on stator/rectifier

Not an expert but your stator is a coil of sort and you should have a resistance value of some kind, if your stator coils are over 200 ohms most magnetic inductive coils are, continuity testers/ or meters on continuity scale will not show, conitinuity is a relative short, and that is what you do not want to see, try a 2k scale! and no I believe your charging system is variable but continuos

Re: Question on stator/rectifier

Are the connections(both ends) of your battery cables clean and tight?

In my Seloc book it shows to test as I did, though I don't have a tester that goes to 2k for the next test. I'll have to find one for more tests.

Yep. I cleaned all connections before testing.

I wish I still had the wiring diagram for the connections of all wires for this, to double check what I did 6 years ago. If anyone can post one, I'd be more than greatful.
