Re: question on thread etiquitte

I would say that would depend on your question... I guess the biggest complaint that someone has here is asking a question then getting some answers then posting a question that deals with the other... we can only look @ one thread at a time & to jump back & forth is time consuming & will eventully get lost... so I would catgorize what you are doing or keep it all together but if it gets too long... then you have same problem again...

My personal thought is... "having carb problem..." keep it all together & when completed... identify that it is completed project & what resolved the issue at hand.

But say you have electrical... start another thread on this issue... this BB has a search where you can look up everything by user name, topic, etc... So when completed... post another topic saying complete & to review all posts, go to "Search" with your ID & someone can look at all the projects plus posts relating to them...

It is like a tool box.... you just do not throw all your tools in because you have to search for it when you need it... that is why you catgorize/place items together for easy access!!! Hope this answers your question & check out the "search" option on your user name & see all the stuff you have already posted.

And.... Good Luck on your project boat!!!!!

I mostly agree with Fone_man, Stinger. Where we might disagree a little is in how long to keep one topic alive. For example, a topic may start with, "My engine bogs on accelleration." then go through fuel troubleshooting, ignition troubleshooting and end up a prop hub trouble. I would like that to stay one topic, but I don't make the rules, if there are any.

On the other hand, if the same user is thinking of replacing that engine and wants to get some thoughts on a replacement, (s)he can start a new topic without disrupting the story of the trouble.

One thing some users fail to do is report on the results of a topic. Our payoff for the time we spend making suggestions and giving advice is knowledge that it has done some good. We want to know the end of the story. On that I think we all agree.

Red sky at night. . .
JB

It should make zero difference if you had one thread or 59 threads. Let me put it this way....
Do all the problems that surface on any given boat or motor, surface at the same time?
It would be hrd to decipher a post that jumped from topic to topic, so post your questions, hints n tips, or answers any way you see fit.Just keep it clean, friendly, and on-topic,and nobody can complain with a clear conscience. As far as the moderators, they are very non-intrusive. It's one of the reasons it is so popular.
