I currently have a 2000 Volvo Penta 7.4Gi PEFS (454) attatched to a Duoprop.

I have a few questions regarding replacing the current engine with a 5.7l

Will a 5.7 bolt up to my trans?

Will my exhaust (not including the manifolds) be the same?

Are the motor mounts in the same place?

Will my current remote oil filter work on a 5.7?

Will my current alternator work?

Will my current starter work?

Will my current power steering and cooler work?

Will my current fuel system work?

I know this is a loaded tread just looking for any answers I can find.

For what its worth there is nothing currently wrong with my engine, she runs like a kitty. I'm just future minded and parts for the 7.4 are much harder to come by; ie: cooling kits, manifolds, ect.

Thanks in advance guys.

Yes, but the gear ratio in the outdrive (not called a transmission) will have to be changed for the smaller engine. $$$$$$$$

Will my exhaust (not including the manifolds) be the same?
Some of it

Are the motor mounts in the same place?
No

Will my current remote oil filter work on a 5.7?
Should

Will my current alternator work?

Will my current starter work?

Will my current power steering and cooler work?
While the units may work, all the brackets are completely different on the 5.7

Will my current fuel system work?

No, and neither will the wiring harness and the computer, and other sensors. BIG $$$$$$$$

Stick with what you have, the parts are no harder to get for a 7.4 Volvo than a 5.7

Re: Question re: engine swap

Well that settles that. Thanks guys.

Don, you'd be surprised how hard it is to find quality aftermarket parts for the 7.4.

It sucks that you can get nice Osco manifolds and risers for a 5.7 for $499 but for a 7.4 $1300, and I have to buy VP.

Same with FW cooling kits. 5.7's have nice and cheap on motor kits whereas 7.4's have ugly off motor 'block only' kits.
