Ah, the new issues that pop up when a resto is done..... I've just started boating with my 69 K&C Thermoglass 17.5 bowrider I/O. Never thought about it before but reading around on this site and I saw some references that the transom should be supported by the bunks of the trailer. I checked my trailer and the boat sticks out behind the bunks about 18". I do have a pair of rollers under the hull right about where the center of the engine is, between the front and rear motor mounts. (this is an OMC stringer - the drive passes through the hull in a bellows - engine/drive are NOT attached to the transom at all). So, in my case, I would say there is very little weight/stress on the transom and having the transom unsupported should not be an issue, as long as there is good support right under the engine (which there is).

Just tossing that out and looking for opinions on the setup. I know pics would help but I am sitting here at work, killing time on the last day of work before a 1 week boating holiday, by surfing iboats......

Re: question re loading I/O on trailer

On longer hauls, I use a pair of transom trim cylinder supports, which are extremely economical and quite easy to use. Although, I've heard I/O's don't really need extra support like outboard's do. Food for thought...
