quick question everyone... the pro-v series, are they a salt water or fresh water motor... does it matter? I understand that the saltwater series has zinc to help prevent corrosion and stainless steel components but does a pro-v have them too? I guess what im asking is, can i safely use it for saltwater without having to worry about corrosion, rust etc...?

model P200TLRQ

thanks,

you have to worry about corrosion with any motor. salt water is just bad news. but the motors designed for salt water use are effected less. I cannot answer your question, maybe call a yammy dealer near you and they should be able to answer. whatever motor you get rinse and flush good after every use in salt water.

All the Yamahas are well-prepared, designed and built for fresh OR saltwater and do have the zinc sacrificial anodes. The saltwater environment can definitely shorten the life of the motor, compared to freshwater use only. That said, go ahead and enjoy your motor in the ocean, take some extra time to flush motor, wash it down, grease and lubricate nuts, bolts, fasteners and parts to try and help prevent as much corrosion as posssible. Not a bad idea to protect your tilt/trim rams, motor, pump, etc. with white Spray Lithium Grease that sets up semi-hard, stays on a long time, really helps keep that saltwater off. Remove your lower unit to replace the water pump every year or two, use Marine Waterproof Grease on all bolt threads, drive shaft splines, etc. You'll be fine! Good Luck!:)
