Question regarding rpm's

I recently installed a tach on my bayliner capri with an '85 85 hp force outboard, succesfully re-propped the engine to get within recommended rpm's at wot, but I'm a little confused with the readings that I get while in nuetral. While in nuetral at full throttle the highest it reads is 2200 rpm's. Is this alright or should it be higher??

The linkage is limited it nuetral to prevent the clutch from engaging at high engine revolutions

Don't know if that motor has a throttle limiter when in neutral or not.<br /><br />But why would you want to rev your motor any higher in neutral?

Thanks for the quick response...The linkage point makes sense.<br />The reason I asked was b/c I had read a few posts on these forums where people had referred to higher nuetral rpm's than what I was getting, although these were from different year engines than mine. I just wasn't sure if I had an adjustment to make or not.
