Question ? storage - prevent carburetor from gum up ?

Hi,

I was told by a boat owner that I met this weekend, saying that it?s a good idea to un-plug the fuel line (when finish up flushing the engine) let the engine run until it die, that way, it burn up all the fuel in the carb to prevent it from gumming up when store the boat for 2 weeks or more.

Well, my question is ? on a TWO STROKS ENGIN, it get the lubrication from the 2 stroke engine oil which is mix with gas. If I un-plug the fuel line, during this moment, the engine runs until it dies, my instinct tells me that it might not getting enough fuels and oil to lubricate the engine?

Would it screw up the engine, on the long run?

So I?m trying to prevent carburetor from gumming up, but I might take a chance to harm the engine????

What?s you take on this?

Thanks for any input.

Don't run the engine dry.

If you do, kill the engine as soon as the motor starts to sputter.

Better yet, use a good fuel stabilizer all the time.

Look at the FAQ section for allot of good advice and step by step instructions on how to put your motor to bed for the winter.

I run Stabil fuel conditioner in my fuel all season long because unfortunately there are some months I don't even get out, that way there is always conditioner in the tank, carbs, etc. When putting away for winter, I do what roscoe says, I disconnect the fuel line, start it up, spray the fogging oil in the carbs, shut her down, spray the plug holes, crank it over a couple times and cover it up,

How about just before your last use, fog the engine then drain the carb threw the drain plugs, and store it empty

I say just move to a warmer climate so you can use the boat all year long...then you don't have problems like this :D

I use my whaler about every 3 weeks...I don't ever do anything to it...just shut it off, back it in the garage and it's good to go. The pontoon I've been using weekly and it's basically the same....

keep good gas, stabil, use good oil. Before I bought the toon from the inlaws, they live in KS and they had it fogged at the end of boating season. I would hate to live somewhere where boating season has an end.....I'd go crazy! :D

Ok Thanks everyone.

I'm in San Diego, I will use the boat through out the whole year (I hope).

So just to be sure – A bottle of SEA FOAM, that’s all (I think I can get them at NAPA)? And don’t need to unplug the fuel line? Even not using it for 3 weeks to 6 weeks?

Seafoam, 1 ounce per gallon of fuel.

You can disconnect the fuel line, but no need to run the carbs dry.
