Hello peoples.

So I picked up a boat for a friend and I cant remember the make, but its got a 1985 OMC v6 3.8 liter inside the boat.

soooo, I dont know much about OMC , so I figured I would ask you guys.

- this boat has a series 800 Outdrive, and there is an electric tilt motor and it seems to work just fine.
- it also has something called a OMC Tru steering which is cable driven ffrom what I can see.

The thing that has me confused, is it also has a hydrolic pump on it (see the pictures)

I have removed it from the boat because frankly, there were 4 lines going in and out of the pump, but its not going anywhere. what ever it was connercted too, is gone.

it was bolted to the back of the intermediate drive, and 2 lines going to either side of the engine, but no reservoir that I could see.

Doe anyone know what this thing is for?

That's a trim pump for the select trim system. OMC Stringers trim by moving the entire engine, not just the drive. I'm not familiar with the system, so I'm not sure where the reservoir is, but you should see how the engine pivots on the rear engine mounts.

that is the trim pump.the other one is a lift motor for trailer. the trim would lift the complete motor up and down in the front.the electric is just a lift for the outdrive

forgive me, but I dont understand what you mean?

I get that the electric one is for lifting the outdrive in and out of the water.

but what do you mean by "that is the trim pump.the other one is a lift motor for trailer. the trim would lift the complete motor up and down in the front"

do you have pictures or can maybe point me to a diagram?

sorry for my poor explanation.the trim would actually lift the front of the motor up and down.which would tilt the outdrive also.one of the reasons for the flexible boot around the transom ssembly.i believe it was a part of the front motor mount assembly.i don't have any pics.

Ok so what your saying makes more sense, because on this boat there is some poor welds. Ok thanks all

The Stringer stern drives have two separate systems: 1) tilt and 2) trim. Tilt raises and lowers the outdrive mainly for trailering. You can tilt it up as a shallow water drive, but keep you RPS way low - as in just being able to steer. The ball gears take a beating when run while tilted up.

Trim actually adjusts the entire driveline's attitude against the boat (raising and lowering the entire engine) in order to trim the boat while at speed.

Tilt motor is located on the port side, attached to the intermediate housing inside the transom. Basically look in the most impossible portion of the bilge on the passenger side of the boat to access and it should be right about there.

Trim should be on the side of the engine (port side I think). What I don't know is where the mechanism(s) that actually do the lifting are. On mine, the trim is mechanical and is operated by a jackscrew on the front of the engine.

Menglor, how many motors are you saying are/were on the boat? There should be one inside the boat at the front of the engine mounting for the trim feature. One outside the boat on the side of the drive for the tilt feature. Then you are saying this Merc numbered pump was outside the boat bolted on the back of the drive?
