Question with side waves

Hey everybody. I was wondering about how to navigate to a destination when the waves would be hitting you on your port or starboard side. I know you're supposed to always keep the waves off your sides, so I was wondering if it's a good idea to zig zag to your destination to keep the waves always on your bow and stern.

Ex: You need to head west, but the waves are coming in from the north. So you head north, then head diagonally south west, then diagonally north west, zig zagging up and down the north waves until you reach your western destination.

Re: Question with side waves

it depends on wave size and speed but usually I'll run the trough and make small course adjustments when it causes the least chance of me getting wet.

depending on conditions, i would head N/W then S/W. quarter beam the waves.
