I i have a late 70 merc 110 9.8
I wonder if there is a way to or a trick to make the engine not start when away from the boat so no one can just take off with it thanks.

Put a ign switch on it to ground the ign out but if some one want to take it it's not much of a deterrent

In the UK we are suffering from boat thefts and set adrifts, so people are using chains and padlocks to secure their boats to the moorings. A bit OT maybe but cheaper than a new boat.

Switch the spark plug leads. Hide a switch in the motor's guts that kills the ignition. Take the fuel home.
