I bought a Johnson Super-SeaHorse outboard on Craigslist a few weeks ago. I am sure the engine was left outside for who knows how many years. Anyway, now the engine is tucked away nicely in my garage. As I don't even know if the thing starts; is there anything winterization wise I can do to it?

Re: Question...

Make sure there is fresh clean oil in the lower unit. I would also spray some WD-40 into the cylinders and cycle it through a few times. Also make sure there is no water at all in any of it. Since this motor has been sitting for years, this won't be an issue, but it will be, once you put it to use.

Can you post a model number and maybe some pics? This would give us an idea of what you're working on and we can give you more acurate advice on the rest of it. You might also want to read the "Top Secret File" on this forum, which is the first thread.
