Do you have to rent a place at a dock to have your houseboat there? Also how does electricity work? Please if anyone can answer these questions and tell me more about houseboats let me know.

Yeah you have to rent a slip. Prices are by the foot. They usually charge different rates for higher amp electric service and charge more if you live aboard.

Google your local marinas and they will list their rates.

Don't forget, you also have to deal with fresh water and sewage.

If you're on a budget and have space at home a trailerable boat is the most economical option. Boat slips run anywhere from 100-400 or more a month depending on size. At some marina's (maybe all) larger slips each have their own power meter so you pay for what you use. Also, most marina's tend to shy away from short term slip rentals so if you're a new customer they may shoot for a 1 year lease. Best to shop around on that too.
