Re: questions about my Evinrude Fleetwin

Hi Khuff,
Any "value" you get from an individual is going to be an opinion at best. Because of its age it has very little trade-in value at a dealer, but might have a modest amount of collector value. Not much, but enough to warrant it being saved from the scrap heap. There are thousands of similar motors out there, so the prices stay quite reasonable. Most collectors will pass on it at anything more than $200 for a nice one, and most of them can find them for much less. They're just too common a motor to grab the "big bucks" unless it's absolutely mint original, or has a Concours level restoration. If someone tells you that they think it's worth a $1000 (or more), I suggest you take the offer right then in there, or ask who told them so you can sell it to them. When the person giving the "value" balks at actually buying it at that price, you'll know they're just blowing 2-stroke smoke.

They're good little motors and with proper care and maintenance it'll give solid service for years to come. I've had several over the years and still have a nice running '55 Fleetwin in my stable of motors...

- Scott

Hi Khuff
Your local OMC dealer should still stock most consumable service parts for this motor. If not they can order them. You can order them from I-boats,Napa auto parts and a bunch of other places. As Chinwalker stated these are common motors and many are still in reg service. As for a manual I like to recomend the after markets (seloc,Clymer, etc). Because this motor, or family of motors is so popular and was produced for so manys years information on repairs and maint. is covered in many publications. You should be able to find this info at your public library. You could order an OEM manual, they are nice, but not realy necassary most times.
