Questions on flushing fuel pump and fuel line replacement

Hey everybody I’m working on a 1986 60 hp VRO. J60TLCxx . I have rebuilt the carbs. Currently working through replacing all the fuel lines.

I think I found what killed this motor, the lower carb was full of oil. The fuel line just inside the connecter was totally plugged solid with crap, which is what I figure cause the oil to be sucked in to the carb(?)

in any case, do you think it would be a good plan to flush the fuel pump out or should I replace? It was full of oil also. EDIT; I sure don’t want to replace it. It looks expensive

Also, I picked up 5/32 inch and 5/16 inch pressure rated fuel line and fuel line zip ties.
I noticed that a lot of the fuel lines on these are factory formed, should I be too concerned about replacing with common line? Some of these corners have pretty tight bends, wondering if any kinks or collapsing in the lines could cause fuel pump to starve at WOT? And could that be detrimental?

Or am I overthinking things here.

Did that happen after you rebuilt the carbs? I would go to premix from a portable tank. Your permanent tank, if you have one, may be contaminated.

Plug the oil line at the motor, and disconnect the harness. Mix 50:1 (a little less than 3 oz. oil -- 2 1/2-3 -- per gallon of gas.

thank you no I just acquired this motor last fall. I’m going through everything. Hasn’t run in a long time. I know the previous owner tried to get it going recently.

Something I just noticed, is that the fuel inlet and outlet barbs on the pump spin when I’m trying to put a fresh line on. I’m going to try and tighten up the torx screws if I can find my torx drivers. Should there be any movement with these?
is there gaskets inside that dry up? At 500 bucks for a pump I don’t want to mess with it!!

not seeing the forest for the trees. Rebuild the carbs (soaking, the whole nine yards), then run with a portable tank at 50:1. After you disconnect the oiling system, the fuel should clean the pump.

Replace the cap on oil tank....it did not release internal pressure and push oil thru VRO into carbs over setting.

Thanks.
I’ve disconnected VRo. Will be doing premix. Carbs are completely rebuilt.

what about the loose fittings on the pump? Should they spin or can I expect leaks or loss of suction?

The VRO pump is very simple.----Go ahead take it apart for inspection.-----I would never buy a new $500 pump.----It must be newer pump and those fitting are sealed with an o-ring --Take one off to see how simple they are.
