Ok so I got the Johnson GT 150 put on my boat and everything hooked up, a lil time consuming but it looks good. I thaught the motor was an 89 model, but after looking up a part it could be an 87. The serial number is J150GTLCUR. I took the boat to the lake and tried it out. It cranked great and all in all I thaught was going to be good it had plenty of power backing off the trailer and it was idling great. I went to take off and it was hesitant, but after slowly coming out of the hole it plained off for about 10 seconds then fell flat on its face, but it never died. I could idle around good then when i would throttle wide open it acted like it was flooding out, but no gas was coming out of the carbs like the float was sticking. After coming back home, I pulled all carbs off and cleaned everyone of them with B12 carb cleaner, in the bottom carb there was a lot of old fuel caked on the bowl and little bits of trash floating around, also the little brass tube with the smaller tube coming through it that has 3 small holes in it was cracked all the way up. I cleaned all that out and put a new fuel filter on it, but could that crack have anything to do with the way it is running. I have not taken it back to the lake to try it out again. I would like to know if there is anything else I could clean or change out. Also on this motor the VRO has been disconnected so you mix the oil in yourself. I am mixing 50:1 is this the right ratio for this motor? Could the fuel pump be causing any of this? Also on the compression I lied last input I was wrong on the compression all cylinders have around 100 except number 5 has 81 this number is more than 10% off, but after sitting up five years if I could run the motor a little I feel this cylinder could pick up some, but this lower compression surely wouldnt keep the boat from being able to plain off am I not right on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
