Re: Questions on water pump install
That brown circular gasket? If that is a "O" Ring, I'd suspect that it is the seal ring that goes in the groove which is just under the top driveshaft splines. Be sure to grease those splines.

The water pump kit should have included some sort of instructions. However, if that kit incorporates a steel liner which inserts into the impeller housing, apply a slight bit of Sealer 1000 (see below) into the housing, then insert the liner. The Sealer 1000 is simply to keep the liner from falling out.

Apply a very slight bit of grease into the inside of the liner. Now with the housing and liner in your left hand, twist the impeller with a counter clockwise motion into the liner with your right hand.

Install the water pump plate and any associated gasket to the lower unit (see below about sealers).

Coat the bottom sealing surfaces of the water pump housing with Sealer 1000. If the impeller key simply sits in a flat area of the driveshaft, apply a slight bit of Sealer 1000 to keep it in place, simply insert the key if it's a woodruff key. Slide the housing and impeller assembly down the driveshaft and onto drive key/pin.

Any gaskets associated with the water pump should be coated with Gasket Sealer (the type that comes in a can that has a small brush in its screw off cap). This also pertains to some water pump installations that use a gasket between the plate and the lower unit housing.

Marprox Sealer 1000 or OMC Adhesive or Boat Armor Sealer 1000 (same substance) should be used on any metal to metal or metal to plastic surface (such as impeller hsg to plate) to eliminate air leaks.
