Outdrive Stand
Outdrive work can be frustrating, getting everything lined up just right and then where do you put the awkward thing when you are working on it. It solved this with a rolling outdrive stand.
I find it quicker to fab things in wood so I developed this stand on a steel moving dolly I built years ago from steel tubing. It is 3/4 plywood put together with drywall screws so that it is easily assembled and disassembled. You can build it with a saber saw, skil saw, and a battery powered drill. With my table saw it took me only about a half hour.
I can crank up the front trailer wheel to line things up and when I am done with it I disassemble it, and store it away flat in pieces and have the moving dolly to use for something else. You could also use an inexpensive wooden moving dolly as your base. Next time I think I will add a little parts tray over the rest of the dolly. Maybe put a hook for a clipboard. Getting a little carried away?
I thought I would pass along pictures of my outdrive service stand. Shown here when I replaced the u-joints and bellows.
