Quick bilge pump question...cause i dont want to sink

Original pump still works but the plastic outlet that connects to the hose broke so just going to replace with the highest gpm that will fit the outlet hose. I currently have an attwood 450 that is wired with an automatic switch (that is wired directly to the battery)

My question - while looking for a new pump i see that many have the automatic function built into the pump itself. Should I go with that and not use the sperate switch?

Also, I see some pumps are listed as plain "automatic bilge pumps", "fully automatic bilge pumps" and others are listed as "submersible." Which one should I get?

I think that is 3 ways to say the same thing, automatic just means that it turns itself on when the water triggers a float switch.

If this is your only pump then an automatic is the way to go but you can wire that so it has a dash switch also.

I have a 500gph for rain water and an 1100gph for a redundant system or if thengs go really wrong and if you want to get really fancy I havean alarm wired to the big pump so if it fires you know you left the plug out or there is some other problem.

A submersible bilge pump you say, I would hope so, marketing people at work I geuss.

thanks for the response., i thought it sounded weird too. This is what iboats shows so they put them in a different category too. It also looks like "automatic" pumps turn on for one second every two minutes and if they sense water they run. My current set up is with a switch at the dash for manual operation and the float switch next to the pump.
