I rebuilt my upper in the winter time all new oem gears and timmkins bearings. I have all the proper tools as well as a genuine manual #6. I followed the manual to a tee with the shimming and rolling torque Made sure it was perfect i triple checked every thing.I run Lucas M8 Marine Pure synthetic oil in it .So I've run the boat about 10 hours since and tonite Decided to pull the drain plug and have a look at the magnet and there was a very fine black steel on it not very much but it was there. Is this normal for an alpha with the way the dogs work when it shifts?

Sounds normal to me... Especially with all new gears and bearings you'll get quite a bit of 'residual' dust and tiny flecks...

On a 'new build', change after about 20 hours.
