Hi all
just this evening I was involved in trying to identify a drive, from pics. No idea of serial number yet.

likely the more experienced than I will answer this very quickly.

The drive was claimed to be a pre alpha (as some say), but it has a squared cav plate like a gen 1 alpha and what looks like the upper unit of a pre alpha. Is this possible ? Do they match each other if out together ? Or was there a cross over around early 80’s when the boat would be from ?

Ayuh,....... With the MC-1s from the later '70s, through the Alpha 1s, but Not the Gen.IIs in 1991,........

You can mix, 'n match complete upper units, with other different lower units,.......

It's when ya open up either of the cases, that parts change,......

Perfect answer Bondo. Was hoping you would pick this up...I’ve been aware of you commenting on similar topics previously.
thnaks again. I’ll pass it on.
although I fear it will be of not much use to the fella, after hearing he thinks that buying a bolt on injection kit for a $1000 will make his old 260 merc somehow produce 300hp afterwards. I think he maybe sees the reality now after I enlightened him of the details. Hope he does ok with it. Lovely old boat he has and he seems quite handy mechanically. Perhaps just miss informed.

Out of interest...forgive me...but why not the gen 2 match ? What is different ? Haven’t got the thinking cap on this evening.
