Quick easy question from a newbie

I hadn't noticed it before today but when hooked up to the garden hose and running the engine there seems to be exhaust escaping from a small hole on a part near the leading edge of the outdrive. Just above the seam attaching the lower and upper units. Right by the speedometer tube and the shift linkage knuckle. Anyway... there is a small hole there. A hole that seems to be from the factory. And it's spewing a small amount of exhaust.

My question is whether this small hole is supposed to be doing this? It's very possible this is perfectly normal... I am just not that familiar with things yet. Note also that the bellows (or whatever they are called) near it are in new condition. They are not leaking.

It's very hard to describe exactly where this hole is. Maybe this picture will help.

IF you tilt the drive up, you will see 2 holes about an inch in diameter in the transom shield. Those are idle relief ports and it's quite normal for water to come out of them when on muffs and at idle.

no this hole is less than 1/4" and not on the transom. I'm familiar with the ones you are talking about.

If you look at the picture below, look at the sides where item #7 attaches to the drive. Those are around a 1/4" hole, maybe a little larger as I recall. #7 is a plastic wear pad that just clips into those holes. If it broke off the aft holes (I think) go into the exhaust port and could be showing up where you indicated in your picture. Check those pads, they (one on each side) really needs to be there.
