No, the hose connection are for flushing the engine only, without muffs you will fry the water pump as it will run dry ....

for flushing the engine, does the engine need to be running? and i would assume muffs on as well.

For flushing with the hose connection there's no need to run the engine, water should reach the whole engine.

Flushing with muffs..... some water will pass the water pump, but would probably work better if the engine was running ( idling ).

Re: quick easy question

My motor is an 2006 60HP 4 stroke. The owners manual says to hook hose up, turn on water slowly and not to full force and then start engine and let it run for at least 5 minutes. No where does it mention muffs. It only says to run only at idol.
