Hey, new member here and I have already gathered tons of info on my new (to me) engine. I bought this late 50's johnson for $250, looks to have low hours, great compression, and is clean as can be. after sitting 6 months I put it on a fresh battery and bumped the starter, rolled over about 3 times and fired right up and ran very smoothly for being an old 2 stroke, needless to say I LOVE this engine. Anyway for my questions:

I cannot find a kill switch anywhere on this thing. to shut it off I just choked it out. It was set up for remote controls but didn't have a key switch or any wiring other than the battery leads for the electric starter. Am I just missing it on the engine somewhere or can I wire one into it? Right now its got a button on the mount for the starter, but I wanted to wire it on a key switch towards the front of my P14, so if I could wire the kill switch in with that I would be a happy camper.

Second, after doing some reading I have found this motor was origionally 6 volt? I'm pretty sure the starter is origional but the guy before me looks to have done the solenoid himself and the wiring, but can running a 12 volt battery damage the charging system(if it has one) or any other pieces of the electrical system? Btw I am just setting it up the same way it was in the boat it came from.

Thank you very much in advance, great site!

unless the motor has a generator opposite the starter. then only thing the battery is use for is the starter. replacement starter are expensive..

Yeah, I read somewhere the electric start kit for this engine is like 400 bucks or some crazy number like that. Now all I need is a vintage 2 or 3hp trolling motor and I should have a pretty nice looking classic
